Andrews Colored-Negro School, located in Murphy, NC resides within Cherokee County.

Imagine what school would be like for both the students and teachers in the early 1930s. At this point in time in Southern Appalachia, specifically in Western North Carolina, there was a high concentration of segregation. This segregation lead to the formation of colored schools (like the one pictured on the left) in Western Carolina.
