Little Canada

An interview with Odell Haskett, who grew up in Little Canada before the creation of Bear Lake and Cedar Cliff Lake.

Little Canada is located in the Unicorporated town of Tuckasegee. It is located where the East and West forks of the Tuckasegee River come together, rendering it to be historically flood prone due to dams being built on forks in the river. This area once boasted two schools, one being built in Little Canada in 1952 and the other being built in Tuckasegee in the 1940's.

The School built in Little Canada was for grades K-8, would operate from 1952 untill it was shut down in 1982. The second school located in Tuckasegee was a combination elementary and highschool that serviced the residents of Little Canada. However, the school would burn down in the 1940's leaving many of the residents of the area with a minimum 45 minute bus ride to the Cullowhee vally school.

Little Canada and many other small communities make up the area we know today as Tuckasegee, as they are all in the general area around the unincorporated town and use the Tuckasegee Post Office.
