Samuel Jackson Wheeler Jr. graduates from Waynesville High School
Samuel Jackson Wheeler Jr. was the first and last African American to graduate from Waynesville High. Before attending Waynesville High he was a former student at Reynolds High, which was an all-black school in Canton. The reason that he wanted to go to Waynesville High was for better educational opportunities as well as the chance to attend an all-white school. After getting the opportunity to attend a school with more resources, Samuel graduated with a C+ average and placed 63rd out of 265 in his class.
